The Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society holds meetings on the third Saturday of January, March, May, July, September, and November, unless otherwise indicated in our calendar at the Knowles Center, 174 Rains Avenue, Nashville, TN.
Directions: From I-65 north or south, take the Wedgewood Exit 81 East (or from Franklin Road) go east on Wedgewood to the Tennessee State Fairgrounds entrance. The Center is through the gate on the left after entering the Fairgrounds entrance. The name of the building above the porte-cochere is the Patricia Hart Building which is visible from Wedgewood Avenue.
The general public is invited to attend. The talk by the featured speaker is usually preceded by a few short announcements. The meetings rarely last more than 1 1/2 hours.
About a third of our programs concern subjects that pertain particularly to genealogical research, such as Genealogy on the Internet - The Basics, or Oral History and Interviewing Techniques. Other meetings are of more general interest, many on a historical theme, including such subjects as Southern Claims Commission, a new Civil War research tool, or War of 1812 Genealogy. Still others touch on local interest, and have included Research at the Tennessee State Archives, and Open House at the Nashville Metro Archives.
Once a year - usually in January - we have a Show and Tell meeting, when each of us has a chance to bring in a favorite project and speak about it to the rest of the members. For more details on our Bi-Monthly Meetings, please see Calendar of Events.
