  • How to Order Back Issues

The Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society was established in December of 1986. The first official meeting was held April 25, 1987.

This topical index was compiled for guidance in locating source material contained in our publication since inception. The following headings were arbitrarily chosen for the indexing. The full name index, published each year, should be consulted for individual names.

Back issues are available from The Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society, Inc., P. O. Box 330948, Nashville, TN 37203-7507. The prices are located on the inside back cover of recent issues or inquire of the MTGS contact person via e-mail.

Some confusion developed over the conversion of The Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society's publication of its newsletter to a quarterly during the first year of publication. The Newsletter began with Volume I, Number 1 and continued through Number 3. The “Quarterly,” called Middle Tennessee Genealogy, began with Volume I, No. 4 (Spring 1988) although it was erroneously labeled Vol. I, No. 1 at the time. One other early labeling error has occurred. Volume I, Number 3 of the Newsletter was erroneously labeled Winter 1988 when it should have read Winter 1989. The correct designation has been used in this compilation.

In recognition of the scope of interest of members and the evolution of the quarterly over the years, beginning with Volume IX, Number 1, 1995, the name of the quarterly was changed to The Middle Tennessee Journal of Genealogy & History. On May 12, 1997, the Tennessee Historical Commission presented the Journal and the Society with a Certificate of Merit “for significant contributions to the study and preservation of Tennessee's heritage during the previous year.”

Note: Most full articles are one to five pages long. In a publication of this sort, one can not presume a full study of the subject is contained in the reference. However, the material presented is well-balanced and as accurate as possible.

The full name index is provided each year with the Journal and should be consulted for individual names.
